Project Description

“Your Tree” – Art Workshop at Birralee Int. School in Trondheim for the Art Week 2015.
This is the 4th collaboration-workshop with the school, in which I was invited to prepare and lead an art activity for 3 days with 4th and 5th class students.
Inspired by a really unique subject this year: “You Be You”, I prepared a workshop concept to build individual trees using wires, latex glue, tissue papers, newspapers and magazines, painting and decorative elements. The prototype I built for the workshop is one of the new figures created for Kodeløypa project and it will be displayed in Trondheim Maker Faire next august.

During the creative process, the activity included a brainstorming session to design the tree and think about the characteristics of it (favorite season, branches/leaves/flowers/seeds, colors, etc) and also inviting students to think out of the box and using nature to create their own fantasy tree.
During the 3 days that we had to develop the project, participants were interacting, learning new skills, playing with materials, helping each other and having fun together.

The results were collected in a “magic garden” and exhibited on the 3th floor, together with other artworks from other workshops that were connected to this one, like the “mythological creatures” and “totems”.

The trees were placed with non specific display, allowing to visualize how nature grows and adapt different species to live together, creating the biodiversity. The mythological creatures from another workshop were also placed together with the trees, since the other artist that leaded the workshop (the talented argentinian artist Dolores Capdevilla) and I thought that our projects matched perfectly together and that we could share the “magic garden space” together.

The reflection during and after the workshop was really positive and the feedback received for this activity from both students and teachers was really a reward worth the experience.
The students inspired me so much that they provided me with new perceptions and new perspectives to become more flexible, mentally and physically.

These are pictures taking during the working process and the exhibition. None face is displayed in the images.
Thanks to all wonderful and creative minds that participated in this activity and to the school for inviting me again this year.

As one of the students said to me: Hope to see you next year again, you are so cool! :)
